Learn a Social Media Platform: Threads
Every social media platform has its own unique best practices and audiences. Figuring out which ones are best for you and your business will help you focus your social media marketing in all the right ways.
A little background information: Threads is the Meta text-based social media platform that is (currently) directly attached to your Instagram profile. There are over 320 million monthly active users, with roughly 100 million of those using the app daily. The largest age demographic is 25-34 year olds, with 18-24 year olds at the second largest.
Launching in early July 2023, Threads has seen substantial growth in its 2 years of life. Threads reached 100 million users in its first week, something that Instagram took roughly 2.5 years to do. So, while Threads is far from the largest social media platform out there, it certainly is one to consider.
Strategy tips:
The Threads algorithm does a fantastic job at showing you the kind of content you want to see, as long as you train it right. Be sure to click “not interested” on posts that don’t align with your views. Click into the posts that interest you the most. Even if you don’t drop a like on them, the algorithm sees that you spend more time on it and will send you more like it. And above all else, blockity-block-block all of those trolls and cranky people. It isn’t worth it to spend your time or energy on them.
Threads is an engagement platform. Your own posts will get more views the more you respond to and engage with others. Just make sure that you’re respectful and trying to actually have a conversation with the people whose posts you comment on. If you’re rude or commenting something that is completely off topic, they can hide your response or just block you altogether. You’re looking to cultivate your community here, so give everyone the same respect you would like them to give you.
You can lengthen your posts by creating a thread of posts together. Generally, a combination of shorter, one-thread posts and longer, multiple-thread posts help to increase your views.
Text-based posts get more views than image or video posts. When it’s necessary to add an image or video, and sometimes it is, put those in the second or lower threads of your posts. Do the same with links.
Threads may not be a platform that your target audience is on, but if they are, you can gain a lot of business from using it effectively. Just focus on being yourself and making true and honest connections with people. And most importantly, don’t give up. Keep showing up consistently and your following and views will grow.
All the best,
